Successful Audio Recordings with an iPad

Whether their job is a scheduled report or a spontaneous recording, more and more video journalists are choosing to leave their traditional video cameras at home and use an iPad instead. The great challenge with these types of reports is achieving high audio quality – and that’s often impossible with the built-in microphone. Rich, lifelike sound, on the other hand, is provided by the MKE 600 professional shotgun microphone from audio specialist Sennheiser, and this can now be easily connected to an iPad or iPhone using the new KA 600 i cable. The high level of speech intelligibility and good directivity of the MKE 600 ensure optimum audio quality for reports and interviews.

“Mobile phones and tablets are increasingly becoming an accepted part of professional reporting,” explained Kai Lange, product manager for wired microphones at Sennheiser. “At the beginning of the year, for example, an iPhone was used for the first time for a live report in a TV news format. To make sure that the audio quality does not suffer during this flexible and fast type of reporting, we have made our MKE 600 shotgun microphone the perfect partner for an iPad or iPhone – with the KA 600 i connecting cable. Nothing now stands in the way of balanced sound coupled with a high level of directivity.”

The KA 600 i coiled cable has a full length of around 40 cm and connects from an XLR-3 plug to a four-pole right-angled mini jack plug with wiring specific to an iPad and iPhone. The cable is available in audio equipment stores with immediate effect.
