Delta Sound supplies first London Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship

Mid August saw the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships arrive in London’s Hyde Park, where audio specialist Delta Sound and its new L’Acoustics KUDO line array made sure that commentary and interviews came through loud and clear.

Delta was contracted by upsolut sports uk, working directly with event producer Will Glendinning, and was responsible for all production communications as well as the main audio system.

“We had 100 hand portables located across the site on 10 separate repeater channels,” recalls Delta’s Paul Keating. “The Delta truck was used as the comms centre for the event and its 30m mast ensured that we had RF coverage across the park."

This was the first outing for Delta’s KUDO system, which comprises a total of 36 KUDO cabinets and 24 SB28 subs. Two ground supported mast positions, with a hang of 10 KUDO each, were focussed on the spectator area and the system was controlled via a fibre backbone along with BSS Soundwebs.

“Because it was predominantly vocal coverage and light programme material no subs were needed on the main hangs,” says Paul. “The latest L’Acoustics pre sets extend the frequency range sufficiently.”

The system was further augmented by four KIVA infill positions along the water’s edge, rigged within Delta’s KITT towers.

The two-day competition was the first Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship in London, and is set to grow in scale in the run up to 2012.

Delta was chosen as audio supplier by upsolut sports uk because of its extensive experience of working on large-scale sporting events such as Tour de France.
